Punjab Approves 33370 Scholarships for Deserving Students





The Zakat and Ushr Council of Punjab has granted approval for 33,370 scholarships to deserving students. These scholarships will support students at various educational levels, including Intermediate, BS, Postgraduate, and professional institutions such as medical, engineering, and computer science programs. The recent meeting of the council, chaired by Secretary Mian Abrar Ahmed, addressed several issues, with a focus on the allocation of educational scholarships. Approval of Scholarships:

During the meeting, the proceedings of the previous session were reviewed and various matters were discussed, including the distribution of scholarships. A total of 15,785 scholarships were approved for deserving students studying in 334 educational institutions across 36 districts in Punjab. These scholarships, amounting to over 133.4 million rupees, will provide financial assistance to students pursuing their education. Additionally, scholarships worth more than 12.02 million rupees were sanctioned for 17,585 deserving students enrolled in 171 religious madaris across 28 districts.


Eligibility Criteria:
The scholarships provided by the Zakat and Ushr department of the Punjab government are intended for economically disadvantaged students studying in recognized colleges, universities, polytechnic institutes, and other educational and professional institutions in Punjab. The determination of eligibility Istehqaq is made by Local Zakat Committees and verified by the scholarship committee of the respective educational institution. The scholarship committee comprises the Head of the Institution, a Class Teacher, and a representative from the District Zakat Committee.


Application Process:

Deserving students can apply for the scholarship through the head of their educational institution. The local zakat committee will assess the eligibility of the student. Once approved, the District Zakat Committee releases the funds to the concerned educational institution, which then disburses the payment to the deserving student.


Stipend Rates:

The scholarship program offers stipends based on the level of education. The rates per annum are as follows:

Intermediate: 6,000 PKR
BS/Graduate & Postgraduate: 12,000 PKR
Engineering/Medical Colleges/Computer Science: 18,000 PKR

The approval of 33,370 scholarships for deserving students in Punjab reflects the commitment of the Zakat and Ushr Council to support education and empower economically disadvantaged students. The scholarships aim to alleviate financial burdens and enable students to continue their studies in various educational disciplines.
