Private Schools Reject Summer Vacation Extension in Punjab
Lahore, Pakistan — The Punjab governments decision to extend summer vacations in schools until September 1, 2025, has sparked controversy, with the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association openly criticizing the move as “unnecessary” and “damaging to students’ education.”
Punjab School Vacation Extension Faces Backlash
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat took to social media to announce that all public and private schools in Punjab would remain closed until September 1, 2025, due to the ongoing heatwave and potential health risks for students. The decision, according to the government, prioritizes student safety amid extreme weather conditions.

But the Private Schools Association isn’t convinced. In a press release, the association stated that the prolonged summer break is unjustified, especially when schools in Islamabad reopened on August 4, and educational institutions in Sindh, KPK, and Balochistan have also resumed normal operations.
Extended School Holidays 2025 in Punjab May Hurt Students’ Progress
The association stressed that extending Punjab school holidays disrupts the academic calendar and puts students at risk of falling behind in their studies. A nearly three-month break may lead to:
- Poor board exam preparation
- Reduced classroom engagement
- Academic slowdown across grades
- Loss of curriculum continuity
They warned that matric and inter students, in particular, may face significant disadvantages in board exam readiness compared to students from other provinces.
