School Associations Plan Legal Action Against Long Vacation Schedule

Representatives of these associations described the almost three-month-long break as damaging for the country’s education sector and disturb study of students, preparation of exams and other educational activities. They also revealed plans to challenge the decision in the Lahore High Court, including its benches in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Bahawalpur.

According to the associations, such an extended closure period could seriously disturb students’ learning, admission process, next exams preparations and routines and may increase the chances of school outs.

Dr Abrar Hussain Malik, president of the All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association, criticized the early closure of educational institutions. He stated that lengthy vacations often reduce students’ focus on studies while encouraging excessive screen use and involvement in non-academic activities.

He further warned that Pakistan already faces the issue of millions of children being out of school, and longer breaks could create additional challenges for maintaining educational continuity.

Meanwhile, Irfan Muzaffar Kayani said the government’s decision could negatively affect the overall education system. He suggested that summer holidays should instead be observed from June 1 to August 14.

He also requested authorities to allow schools to conduct summer camps for students of 8th, , 9th and 10th classes. Other representatives from private educational institutions proposed shortening the vacation period and modifying school timings during extreme weather conditions rather than closing schools for nearly three months.
