Private Schools & Colleges in Sindh Announce Province-Wide Strike

All private schools and colleges across Sindh will remain closed on Friday, January 9, following a strike announced by the Grand Alliance of Private Schools Associations. The announcement was made during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club. The protest is directed against ongoing verification drives conducted by the Anti-Corruption Establishment ACE. Dispute Over Verification Procedures

Alliance leaders explained that a December 8, 2025 ruling by the Sindh High Court Sukkur Bench authorized the Anti-Corruption Establishment to verify freeship lists submitted by regional directors. However, the alliance claims that ACE teams exceeded this mandate by conducting direct inspections inside schools, which they say violates the Sindh Private Institutions Act, 2013. According to the law, only the Directorate of Private Institutions is authorized to regulate private schools and colleges.

Black Day Observance and Court Action

As part of their protest, the alliance declared January 8 as a Black Day and confirmed plans to file a fresh court application challenging the current verification process. They expressed serious concerns over armed personnel being present on school premises, stating that this has created fear and psychological stress among female teachers and young students. Parents, they said, are also being unnecessarily questioned despite submitting all required documents and undertakings.

Concerns About Fairness and Institutional Reputation

The alliance argued that holding the entire private education sector accountable for alleged individual violations is unfair and damages the reputation of long-established educational and charitable institutions.

Appeal to Provincial Leadership

The group called on Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Education Minister Sardar Ali Shah to intervene immediately. They urged that all verification activities be carried out exclusively through the Directorate of Private Institutions and not through direct school inspections.

Upcoming Consultative Meetings

Looking ahead, the alliance plans to hold joint meetings with parents and school administrations from January 6 to January 8 in all districts of Sindh. These consultations will form part of the next phase of their coordinated action.
