PMDC Issues Notices Over Excessive Fees at Medical & Dental Colleges

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC has issued show-cause notices to 12 medical and dental colleges for charging annual fees above the approved limit of Rs. 1.8 million. This was confirmed by PMDC President Dr. Rizwan Taj during a press briefing. The students can get the latest updates of PMDC Issues Notices Over Excessive Fees at Medical & Dental Colleges.

Council Enforces Fee Regulations to Protect Students

Speaking to the media, Dr. Taj explained that the council is actively monitoring institutions to ensure they follow the official fee regulations. He also mentioned that the PMDC is reviewing 40 more cases, which were referred back to the council after related petitions were dismissed by the courts.

Dr. Taj highlighted a recent agreement with the Pakistan Association of Medical Institutions PAMI, in which colleges consented to withdraw ongoing litigation and provide relief to students affected by fee violations. A follow-up meeting to finalize these arrangements is planned for later this month.

According to Dr. Taj, any institution seeking to increase fees up to Rs. 2.5 million must submit a comprehensive financial justification to the PMDC. These requests will be carefully evaluated through a formal review process before any approval is granted.

He also warned that colleges charging fees beyond the approved cap without prior consent will be required to compensate students. The excess fees collected will either be refunded or adjusted against the next academic year’s charges.

The PMDC has urged students and parents to ensure they do not pay fees above the officially prescribed limit, reinforcing the council’s commitment to protecting students from unfair financial burdens.
