PMDC Introduces New Rules for Foreign Medical Interns
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC has implemented a new regulation requiring provisional registration for all foreign medical graduates before they are allowed to start their house job in Pakistan. This step ensures that only verified and qualified medical professionals from recognized institutions can begin clinical training in the country.
The council emphasized that no foreign graduate is permitted to start a house job without provisional registration. Any ongoing house jobs without proper registration are required to be halted immediately.
The directive has been communicated to all public and private medical colleges, teaching hospitals, and healthcare institutions nationwide. Compliance with the new rule is mandatory for institutions hosting house job programs.
Graduates who obtained their degrees from PMDC-recognized foreign universities can now apply for provisional registration directly. Meanwhile, individuals holding degrees from non-recognized institutions will first have to pass the National Registration Examination NRE before becoming eligible for provisional registration and clinical practice in Pakistan.
This initiative aims to strengthen the quality control of medical training and ensure that house job programs in Pakistan maintain the highest professional standards.
