PMDC Grants Registration Relief to Earlier Postgraduate Medical Batches

PMDC Grants Registration Relief to Earlier Postgraduate Medical Batches

In an important move that brings comfort to hundreds of postgraduate medical and dental students, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has approved a decision to register all students and degree holders who were admitted before January 16, 2023, once they complete their qualifications. This step offers significant protection to students who began their studies prior to the enforcement of stricter regulations introduced under the PMDC Act 2022. Council Announces Clear Registration Policy for Students Enrolled Before January 2023

The decision was finalized during a council meeting held on January 7, 2026. According to the resolution, any student who secured admission or completed their postgraduate degree on or before January 16, 2023, will be eligible for registration with the council after the official award of their degree. This ensures that earlier batches are not affected by the updated accreditation standards that came into force after the implementation of the new law.

However, the situation is different for students admitted after January 16, 2023. For these candidates, the council has made it compulsory that their degree-awarding institution must be formally recognized by the PMDC. Furthermore, their training institution must hold accreditation under Section 25 of the PMDC Act 2022. These requirements aim to maintain uniform academic and professional standards in medical and dental education across the country.

The relief announced by the council covers a broad spectrum of postgraduate qualifications. These include MS, MD, MDS, MPhil, PhD, FCPS, MCPS, and various diploma programs offered by recognized Pakistani universities, institutions, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. By extending the decision to these programs, the council has addressed concerns raised by a large number of students pursuing advanced medical education.

The PMDC has advised all eligible graduates to proceed with their registration by following the official procedures set by the council. Students are encouraged to complete the required documentation and formalities to ensure timely registration without unnecessary delays.

This policy adjustment reflects the council’s effort to balance regulatory enforcement with fairness toward students who enrolled under earlier academic frameworks.
