PED Issue Directions on Practical Exams for Science Subjects
The Chairperson of the CM Task Force on Exam Reforms has issued fresh instructions regarding the conduct of practical Exams for science subjects in schools across Punjab. The notification was sent to all Controllers of Exams of Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in the province. The students can get the latest updates of PED Issue Directions on Practical Exams for Science Subjects.
New Instructions Released for Conducting Science Practical Assessments in Schools
According to the letter, concerns were raised during a meeting of the Provincial Education Ministers Conference about the way practical exams are currently being conducted. Following these discussions, several important recommendations have been approved to improve transparency and fairness in the examination at matric level.
The notification states that practical exams should properly assess students’ understanding and skills in matric result instead of relying on routine or memorized activities. Students should be evaluated on their ability to perform experiments, analyze observations, and demonstrate conceptual learning in laboratory work.
The authorities also emphasized that practical assessments must cover all major areas of the syllabus and should encourage critical thinking and scientific understanding. Schools have been advised to ensure that laboratory activities are meaningful and linked with classroom learning outcomes.
In addition, the instructions highlight the importance of maintaining fairness and avoiding unnecessary burden on students during the assessment process. Examination boards and educational institutions have been directed to implement these recommendations during upcoming Higher Secondary School Certificate practical Exams.
All concerned departments have been asked to circulate and enforce these guidelines strictly to improve the overall standard and credibility of practical Exams in science subjects.
