PEC Permits Pre-Medical Students to Pursue Engineering Degrees
Pakistan Engineering Council PEC has announced that students with pre-medical backgrounds are now eligible to apply for undergraduate engineering programs in universities and colleges across the country. To facilitate this, pre-medical students must complete an 8-week intensive mathematics course at their respective universities. This decision was formalized through an official notification. The students can get the latest updates regarding PEC Permits Pre-Medical Students to Pursue Engineering Degrees.
PECs Decision for Pre-Medical Students
During its 49th meeting on June 28, 2024, the PEC Governing Body resolved to allow students with HSSC Pre-Medical qualifications to be considered for admission to all engineering programs. This decision aligns with Article-2ai of the PEC Regulations for Engineering Education in Pakistan. Higher Education Institutions HEIs have been directed to follow specific guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures SOPs for admitting these students.
Entry Test Modifications for Pre-Medical Applicants
Entry test protocols will be adjusted to account for the qualifications of pre-medical students, with appropriate weightages assigned for admission eligibility. This ensures that pre-medical students are fairly assessed alongside their peers.
Intensive Mathematics Courses
Pre-medical students must undertake an 8-week condensed mathematics program to cover the necessary coursework. This program serves as a provisional admission, allowing students to qualify for the main engineering admission process through an entry test. Universities offering these programs are responsible for designing the curriculum and maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
Admission Criteria and Seat Allocation
Admissions will be based on the merit of the discipline and student preferences. A maximum of 40% of seats within the total allowed intake for each batch can be allocated to pre-medical students who successfully complete the condensed program.
Entry Test for Condensed Program Graduates
Universities will conduct a separate entry test for students who have completed the condensed program to determine their merit for admission into engineering programs. Admission cycles may be adjusted according to regional academic calendars.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for admission into engineering programs, students must have a minimum of 60% in their HSSC
exams, as stipulated in Article 2ai of the PEC Regulations for Engineering Education in Pakistan.
