Two universities from Pakistan have received prestigious nominations in the Times Higher Education THE Awards Asia 2026, highlighting the country’s growing presence in the regional higher education landscape. The nominations place Pakistan alongside leading institutions from Thailand, India, and Hong Kong in a highly competitive field. Regional Standings and Competition

Thailand leads the nominations with 16 entries, followed by India with 12, while universities from Hong Kong have earned nine nominations. The 2026 edition of the awards drew over 500 submissions across ten categories, which were then narrowed down to 80 finalists representing 17 countries and territories. This reflects the increasingly dynamic and competitive nature of higher education across Asia.

Pakistani Universities on the Shortlist

From Pakistan, Beaconhouse National University BNU and Lahore University of Management Sciences LUMS have been recognized in multiple categories. Beaconhouse National University has been shortlisted for Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership and Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Meanwhile, LUMS appears in Outstanding Support for Students and Research Project of the Year in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. These nominations highlight the universities’ commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and student support.

THE Awards Asia 2026: Celebrating Excellence

According to Chris Havergal, editor of Times Higher Education, the shortlisted entries demonstrate the breadth and diversity of higher education in Asia, showcasing strong achievements across teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement. The nominations underscore the significant contributions that institutions make to their academic communities and society at large.

Announcement of Winners

The winners of the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2026 will be revealed during a ceremony in Hong Kong on April 22, 2026. The awards event will coincide with the opening day of the THE Asia Universities Summit, organized in partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, celebrating excellence and innovation in Asian higher education.
