Only 20% of Foreign Medical Graduates Pass NRE in Pakistan

The National University of Medical Sciences NUMS has released the results of the National Registration Examination NRE, showing that only about 20 percent of foreign medical and dental graduates passed. This outcome has raised concerns about the quality of medical education received abroad and the preparedness of graduates seeking registration in Pakistan. In the June 2025 session, 5,035 candidates registered, with a medical pass rate of 25.26%. The slight decline in the December results highlights persistent challenges related to curriculum gaps, teaching standards, and exam preparedness among foreign medical graduates FMGs.

The NRE ensures that foreign-trained doctors and dentists meet the minimum clinical knowledge and professional competency standards required in Pakistan.
