Okara Schools in 32 Flood Prone Areas to Remain Closed
The Deputy Commissioner of Okara has ordered the closure of schools located in 32 flood-affected areas of the district until September 7, 2025, following warnings of severe flooding in the Sutlej and Ravi rivers. According to the official notification, both public and private schools in these vulnerable regions will remain shut to safeguard the lives of students, teachers, and staff. The directive lists 32 locations identified as being at high risk of flooding, including Chuchak, Mupalkay, Bama Bala, Lasharian, Jandraka, Gogera, Fateh Pur, Kund Bohard, Mehlo Ky, Basti Mathela Wali, Bhojian, Nama Jindeka, Attari, Puran Mandi, Baqar Kay Mahar, Pana Mahar, Jamal Kot, Thatha Bhattian, Sodhey Ki, Daraz Kay, Rohela Sherin / Mallhu Sheikhu Ka, Peer Ali, Molia Chishti, Rattay Key, Nikki Maneki, Mahanat Darshan, Nota Khichi, Jandu Manj, Soje Kay, Tali Jamal, Moza Bhattian, and Head Suleimanki Haveli.
Decision Taken for Student Safety
District authorities emphasized that the closure aims to protect students and school staff from potential risks posed by rising water levels and worsening flood conditions. The situation will be reviewed regularly, and if circumstances improve, schools are expected to reopen after September 7, 2025.
