Monday Closure of Rawalpindi Schools and Colleges for Chehlum
All educational institutions, including universities, colleges, and schools, within the municipal limits of Tehsil Rawalpindi, except the cantonment area, will be closed on Monday, August 26, 2024, due to the Chehlum procession. This decision was announced through a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of students and staff during the religious observance.
Earlier, the Punjab government declared a local holiday in Lahore District on the same date to mark the 981st Annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh RA. The Services and General Administration Department Welfare Wing announced this district-level holiday on Tuesday. It applies to all government offices in Lahore, except for the Punjab Civil Secretariat, its Attached Departments, and Regional Offices.
Additionally, the government of Sindh has declared a holiday for all public and private schools across the province on August 26 in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam-e-Hussain. According to a notification issued on Friday, all public and private educational institutions under the Sindh College Education Department’s jurisdiction will remain closed on Monday, August 26, 2024. This day commemorates 40 days after Ashura, marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain RA, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad PBUH, and other martyrs of Karbala.
