MDCAT to be Re Conducted in Islamabad and AJK
The Medical and Dental College Admission Test MDCAT will be held again on November 24 in Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir AJK. This decision comes after the initial exam faced legal challenges and was deemed invalid.
Over 17,000 students are set to retake the MDCAT following its cancellation. Initially administered by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University SZABMU in September 2024, the test was declared void by the Islamabad High Court, presided over by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir.
The retest was ordered after six students, including Ammar Naeem, Shahzaib Wazir, and Saba Iman, filed a legal petition. They listed the Health Ministry’s Secretary, PMDC President, SZABMU Vice-Chancellor, and the Chairman of the National Medical and Dental Board as respondents.
According to the petition, the students claimed that 26 to 27 questions were either out of the prescribed syllabus or unnecessarily complicated. They also alleged that mdcat exam papers were collected too soon after the exam, which they argued went against proper procedure. These concerns led to peaceful protests by both students and parents, highlighting the lack of transparency.
In response to the petitioners concerns, the court annulled the September test and ordered a new one. The Fresh MDCAT Conduct Date on November 24 aims to provide a fair and transparent examination process for all aspiring medical and dental students.
