The Punjab Residency Program aims to provide equal, merit-based opportunities to talented doctors for advanced postgraduate medical education in public institutions, ensuring transparency, quality training, and standardized selection across the province.

Admissions are offered in multiple specialties across recognized public medical and dental institutions of Punjab.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfill the following requirements:
•MBBS / BDS degree from an institution recognized by HEC and PM&DC / PMC
•One-year House Job completed from a PM&DC / PMC recognized hospital
•CNIC or Passport and Domicile Certificate
•Foreign National Candidates must possess registration from their respective country’s Medical Council and/or PM&DC / PMC
Joint Centralized Admission Test JCAT

Test Structure
The JCAT will consist of two papers, each comprising 100 Multiple Choice Questions MCQs:
Paper I
•Applied Basic Sciences
•Common for all MD/MS specialties
•Separate Paper I for MDS

Separate specialty-based papers will be conducted for:

2.Surgery & Allied
3.Obstetrics & Gynecology
4.Anesthesiology
5.Ophthalmology
6.Diagnostic Radiology
7.Psychiatry
8.Oto-Rhino-Laryngology ENT
9.Dentistry

Test Date & Passing Criteria
•Tentative Test Date: 29 March 2026
•Passing Marks: 60% aggregate
•Passing the JCAT does not guarantee admission; it only makes candidates eligible for induction on merit.

General Conditions

•The specialty-specific JCAT will be valid for July 2026 induction onward.
•Candidates with a previous valid pass result of common JCAT October 2023 onward are required to attempt only Paper II, securing 60% marks.
•Results for new candidates will remain valid for three 03 years from the date of the test.
•Candidates may reappear to improve their score; otherwise, the previous valid result will remain applicable.
•Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
•Applicants are solely responsible for ensuring eligibility before applying.

Step 1: Registration
•Register using Email & CNIC Pakistani candidates or Passport Number Foreign candidates.
•Verify email through the automated system to receive Login ID and Password.
Application Fee
•Specialty-Based JCAT: Rs. 10,000/-
•Only Paper II for candidates with valid previous JCAT: Rs. 6,000/
