LUMS Next Semester Fee Increase by 41%

Lahore University of Management Sciences has increased the semester fee by the massive enhancement of 41% and they did not inform the students before. LUMS Next Semester Fee Increase by 41%.

It is confirmed through the reports that the university has manipulated the credit hour technically and they have increased the fee up to Rs.140,000. LUMS has made the policy to charge the fee for the students for the 12 CH or 20 CH and they decided to promote the students to go for 16 CH on average. The management has finalized the policy and they will make ‘minimal and negligible’ difference to the final fee. The university has made the decision that the fee is increased by 13% per credit hour because of the inflation. The calculation of the fee shows that the fee has been increased by up to 41.7% for next semester. The previous fee for 20 credit hours was Rs.340,200 and it was divided by 20 equals to Rs.17,010.

With the 13% increase, the fee reaches to Rs.19,221.3 for each CH and the revised fee should be Rs.384,426, when you multiply them by 20. LUMS has increased the new fee of Rs.482,000 for 20 credit hour and it will affect majority of students and it will favor only small of senior students.

The students and the alumni bodies have condemned this decision to so much fee hike and they said that this university is no longer affordable for them. The unjustified increase in the fee has come at this time of economic recession, while many universities all over the world were thinking to reduce the fees.

LUMS has issued the statement for increase in the fee by saying that they have determined the increased in the fee prior to COVID-19 and this decision is consistent with the prior years and they have increased the fee by considering increase in energy costs, inflation and currency devaluation. The university charged the blanket fee for students taking between 12 to 20 credit hours previously. This fee is calculated on per credit hour basis. It is also said that the total fee to meet the requirements of the graduation does not change as result of shift to per credit hour basis.
