Low Pass Rate Recorded in National Registration Exam

The National University of Medical Sciences NUMS has announced the results of the National Registration Examination NRE, revealing that only slightly more than 20 percent of foreign medical and dental graduates were able to pass the assessment. The students can get latest updates of Low Pass Rate Recorded in National Registration Exam for Overseas Medical Graduates.

Detailed Outcome of the NUMS National Registration Examination

The examination was held nationwide on December 14 in accordance with the regulations set by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC. In total, 7,076 candidates registered for the test, comprising 6,993 foreign medical graduates and 83 dental graduates. On the exam day, 7,012 candidates appeared, while 64 did not attend.

Among those who took the exam, 1,473 candidates qualified successfully. This figure included 1,467 medical graduates and only six dental graduates. As a result, the pass percentage for medical graduates stood at 21.17 percent, whereas the dental graduates recorded a much lower success rate of 7.23 percent.

PMDC rules require that two National Registration Examinations be conducted each year for foreign medical graduates. In the earlier NRE, conducted on June 25, a total of 5,035 candidates had registered, including 4,994 medical and 41 dental graduates. All medical candidates appeared for that exam, while the dental candidates were absent. In that session, 1,252 medical graduates passed, resulting in a pass rate of 25.26 percent.

The PMDC has uploaded the results of both examinations to its official website, allowing candidates to verify their outcomes using their assigned roll numbers. The council also announced that the schedule for the NRE Step-II clinical examination will be shared shortly. Candidates who successfully clear both stages will be issued provisional registration certificates, enabling them to complete their house jobs either within Pakistan or overseas.

The PMDC clarified that the results were prepared strictly on merit, in line with established policies and international standards. It further advised students and parents to carefully choose only recognized and reputable medical and dental institutions abroad. The council cautioned that enrolling in substandard or unapproved institutions could seriously damage a graduate’s career prospects and lead to a loss of time and financial resources, stressing that informed decisions are essential for safeguarding the future of the medical profession.
