LHC Rejects Request on Private School Fee Increase
The Lahore High Court LHC on Wednesday dismissed a petition that challenged the recent surge in private school tuition fees. The court instructed the District Registration Authority to resolve the matter within 21 days, as reported by the local media channel. Justice Khalid Ishaq presided over the proceedings, which involved a case brought forward by Muhammad Ayub and other petitioners. Arguments Presented by Petitioners
During the hearing, the petitioners’ counsel argued that private schools increase their tuition fees arbitrarily each year, placing an undue burden on parents. He pointed out that the law allows a maximum annual increase of only five percent, yet in the latest instance, certain institutions had raised fees by as much as 42 percent.
Authority Responsible for Fee Regulation
In response to the judge’s query regarding the regulatory body for school fees, the lawyer explained that such matters fall under the jurisdiction of the District Registration Authority. This body is headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore and is responsible for addressing and resolving complaints related to school fee hikes.
