Lahore Bans Private Schools Operations During Winter Holidays
Lahore, Pakistan: The District Education Authority DEA Lahore has announced a strict ban on all private schools conducting academic activities during the official winter vacation. The move aims to ensure that students and teachers can fully utilize the break without compulsory school obligations.
Official Orders and Monitoring
The directive clearly prohibits any teaching or mandatory classes during the winter holidays. To enforce compliance, the DEA has deployed special inspection teams across Lahore’s five tehsils: Lahore City, Cantt, Raiwind, Shalimar, and Model Town. These teams, led by Deputy District Education Officers DEOs, will perform surprise inspections and report any violations to the authority.
Penalties for Violations
Private schools found conducting academic activities during the holiday period will face heavy fines. In cases of repeated or serious violations, the DEA may revoke the school’s operating license. Authorities emphasized that this is a mandatory government order, not a recommendation.

Parents have expressed relief at the decision, highlighting the importance of holiday breaks for children’s mental and emotional well-being. Experts note that unregulated extra classes during holidays can cause stress, burnout, and hinder creativity.
The ban also ensures that all private schools adhere to the same regulations, preventing any institution from gaining an unfair advantage by offering extra academic sessions during official breaks.
Guidelines for Schools
While optional recreational activities like sports camps or voluntary workshops may be allowed, any structured academic instruction is strictly prohibited. Schools are required to obtain prior approval if they plan activities that might resemble regular teaching.
