KPK Schools and Universities New Fuel Saving Holidays

Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to introduce additional weekly holidays for educational institutions throughout the province as part of temporary measures aimed at conserving fuel. Provincial Govt Implements Fuel-Saving Plan with Hybrid Learning Options
This decision was officially announced through separate notifications issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department and the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department. According to these notifications, the step was approved during a meeting of the Provincial Cabinet held on March 9. The cabinet reviewed the prevailing regional conditions that are influencing petroleum availability and fuel prices and decided to introduce temporary measures to reduce energy usage in the education sector.

As per the directive issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, all public and private schools operating under its supervision will observe holidays on Fridays and Saturdays. This arrangement will remain effective for a period of two months or until the provincial government announces further instructions. However, school administrations have been encouraged to continue academic activities through alternative methods where possible. Institutions may arrange home-based learning or conduct online classes to ensure that students’ studies continue without major interruption.

In addition, the Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department has issued a similar notification for higher education institutions across the province. According to the directive, all universities, degree awarding institutions, and colleges—both public and private—will also remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays during the same period.

To maintain the continuity of academic programs, the department has advised universities and colleges to consider adopting hybrid teaching methods or fully online classes during the remaining working days whenever feasible. These flexible learning approaches will help institutions continue educational activities while complying with the fuel conservation plan.

The provincial government has clarified that these arrangements are temporary and will remain in effect for two months or until further guidance is issued. The initiative reflects the government’s effort to balance energy conservation with the need to maintain educational progress across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
