Ban on Private Meetings and Appointment of Female Focal Persons in Universities

According to an official letter issued from Peshawar, male faculty members are now prohibited from holding one-on-one meetings with female students in their offices. The directive applies to all public universities operating under the provincial government. The move is intended to prevent situations that could potentially compromise student safety or lead to discomfort.

In addition to this restriction, universities have been instructed to appoint at least one female faculty member in each department to handle concerns raised by female students. This designated faculty member will act as a focal person responsible for receiving, addressing, and facilitating the resolution of complaints or issues faced by female students. The purpose of this role is to provide students with a reliable and approachable platform where they can express their concerns without hesitation.

The department has also made it mandatory for universities to hold awareness seminars at least once every three months. These sessions will focus on educating students about existing laws and regulations related to harassment prevention and protection. By conducting these regular seminars, the authorities aim to inform students about their rights and the mechanisms available for seeking support.

Officials stated that these new measures are designed to strengthen institutional safeguards and foster a safer educational environment. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting respect, accountability, and protection within higher education institutions throughout the province.
