KP Bars Unregistered Private Schools From Board Exams 2026

Elementary and Secondary Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP has issued instructions to all provincial education boards to bar students from unregistered private high and higher secondary schools from appearing in matriculation and intermediate exams. This move enforces the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority Act, 2017, which requires all private schools in the province to register with the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority KP-PSRA. Hundreds of Schools Operating Without Registration
Officials have identified 387 private high and higher secondary schools that remain unregistered yet continue to send students for board exams. These schools are spread across eight education boards in KP, including the merged districts. Despite lacking formal registration, these institutions have maintained their affiliations and submitted students for exams.

Breakdown by board:
  • Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education: 196 schools
  • Swat Board: 100 schools
  • Mardan Board: 47 schools
  • Malakand Board: 10 schools
  • Dera Ismail Khan Board: 4 schools
  • Abbottabad Board: 15 schools
  • Bannu Board: 12 schools

De-Affiliation and Enforcement Measures
The education department has instructed all boards to de-affiliate unregistered schools and prevent their students from registering for board exams. Section 21 of the KP-PSRA Act, 2017, clearly prohibits any school from operating in the province without official registration, regardless of its board affiliation.

Currently, KP-PSRA has successfully registered 11,587 private schools. Authorities will initiate formal de-affiliation proceedings against unregistered schools after securing approval from the Chief Minister, ensuring full compliance with provincial regulations.
