Islamabad Schools to Remain Closed Today
The Islamabad district administration has decided to close all public and private educational institutions on Thursday due to security concerns. The decision follows the announcement of a jalsa by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf PTI and a protest call by a religious party. Although the district administration revoked the No Objection Certificate NOC previously granted to PTI, the party remains firm on holding the rally.
The interior ministry emphasized that the closure is intended to ensure the safety of students. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Islamabad Chief Commissioner Chaudhry Mohammad Ali Randhawa, where security concerns were discussed. Islamabad Inspector General of Police IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi highlighted the challenges of managing security, particularly with the Bangladesh cricket team currently in the city.
Given the potential for unrest, the administration stressed the difficulty of controlling a large crowd, noting a recent incident where protesters reached the Supreme Court. Consequently, the administration has deemed it unsafe to permit public rallies in the current climate.
