Islamabad Moves Toward Plastic-Free Schools With Ban on Book Covers

Islamabad Moves Toward Plastic-Free Schools With Ban on Book Covers

The government has approved a new initiative aimed at making schools in Islamabad more environmentally friendly by banning the use of plastic book covers.

Under the newly passed law, the sale, use, and distribution of plastic covers for books will no longer be allowed within the federal capital. Educational institutions have been directed to shift toward eco-friendly alternatives such as paper, cloth, or biodegradable materials instead of plastic.

Officials explained that the decision is part of broader efforts to reduce plastic pollution, which has become a serious environmental concern across the country. The legislation also highlights the harmful long-term impact of non-biodegradable waste on land, water, and wildlife.

Authorities further stated that the move is intended to promote awareness among students about environmental protection and encourage sustainable practices in schools. Violations of the new rules may result in fines and other legal actions under the law.
