IBA Karachi Plans to Launch a New Campus in Islamabad

Institute of Business Administration Karachi has taken an important step toward expanding its academic network by approving a plan to establish a new campus in the federal capital, Islamabad. The decision reflects the institution’s broader vision to extend its educational services beyond its primary base in Karachi and provide more learning opportunities to students and professionals in northern regions of the country. The students can get the latest updates of IBA Karachi Plans to Launch a New Campus in Islamabad.
Board of Governors Approves Expansion to the Federal Capital
The proposal for setting up the new campus was officially endorsed during a meeting of the Board of Governors held on Thursday. During the meeting, officials provided a detailed briefing to the board regarding the progress made so far on the project. According to the information shared with the participants, the process of obtaining land for the proposed campus has nearly been completed. The location selected for the campus is within the area of Defence Housing Authority Islamabad, which is considered one of the well-developed sectors of the federal capital.
Members of the board were also informed about the legal requirements related to the establishment of the campus. Officials clarified that the creation of the Islamabad campus will not require the introduction of a completely new federal law. Instead, the expansion can be achieved through amendments to the existing legislation governing the institution. Specifically, a modification will be made to the IBA Act 1994, which was enacted under the Sindh provincial framework. The amendment will include a clause allowing the institute to operate a branch campus in the federal capital while remaining under its current legal structure.
During the meeting, Abbas Baloch assured the Board of Governors that the required legal amendments would be processed without delay. He informed the participants that steps would be taken promptly to revise the existing law so that the establishment of the Islamabad campus can move forward smoothly. His assurance was welcomed by the board members, who expressed their support for the expansion initiative.
In addition to the approval of the Islamabad campus plan, the Board of Governors also reviewed and sanctioned another important project related to the welfare of university staff. The board granted approval for the construction of 32 residential apartments intended for faculty members and employees of the institution. This housing initiative is designed to help address accommodation challenges faced by staff and to provide a more supportive living environment for individuals working at the institute.
Officials involved in the planning process explained that the new Islamabad campus is part of a larger strategy aimed at strengthening the academic presence of IBA in different regions of Pakistan. By opening a campus in the federal capital, the institute hopes to offer advanced academic opportunities, particularly for working professionals who are based in northern Pakistan. The proposed campus will primarily focus on executive education, postgraduate programs, and specialized courses tailored for professionals seeking career advancement.
In recent years, IBA has already been conducting certain executive education programs and Executive MBA courses in Islamabad. These programs have been organized to serve senior professionals, managers, and corporate leaders who are interested in upgrading their managerial and leadership skills without relocating to Karachi. The positive response to these initiatives has encouraged the institute to take the next step by developing a permanent campus in the capital.
The establishment of the new campus is expected to strengthen academic collaboration, provide more accessible higher education opportunities, and enhance the institute’s reputation as a leading business education provider in Pakistan. With Islamabad serving as a hub for government institutions, multinational companies, and corporate headquarters, the presence of an IBA campus in the city could create valuable connections between academia and industry.
