HEC Study in China 6-Month Research Placement Program 2026

Higher Education Commission HEC Pakistan has officially announced a prestigious call for applications for the Academic Collaboration Under CPEC Consortium of Universities. This initiative allows eligible MS, MPhil, and PhD scholars to undertake a six-month research placement in China, strengthening bilateral academic linkages and advancing research in national priority fields.

Program Eligibility Criteria and Academic Requirements

To qualify for this funded research opportunity, applicants must meet specific institutional guidelines set by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan:

Nationality & Enrollment: Applicants must be Pakistani or AJK nationals and full-time MS/MPhil or PhD scholars at recognized higher education institutions in Pakistan, maintaining active enrollment during selection and the proposed visit.

Research Alignment: The proposed work in China must directly connect to the applicants degree research and remain feasible within a maximum duration of six months.

Host University Acceptance: Candidates require official acceptance or an invitation letter from a Chinese university, institute, or laboratory specifying the research area, host supervisor, and duration, where the host institution must be a member of the CPEC Consortium of Universities.

PhD Scholar Criteria: Must have completed PhD coursework, remain eligible between 18 months and up to a maximum of 3.5 years of enrollment measured on the closing date, and possess a research topic and synopsis approved by BASR, DASR, or an equivalent competent university body.

MS/MPhil Scholar Criteria: Must have completed at least 18 credit hours and entered the thesis or research stage with a topic approved by the host university or department.

Emerging Technologies: AI, machine learning, data science, cybersecurity, robotics, automation, and related disciplines.

Water, Environment & Climate: Water/wastewater treatment, desalination, water security, environmental engineering, climate resilience, and related fields.

Energy & Green Technologies: Renewables, storage, smart grids, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and energy security.

Advanced Industry & Earth Resources: Advanced manufacturing, materials, minerals, geosciences, marine technologies, and coastal engineering.

Agriculture, Food & Biotechnology: Precision agriculture, sustainable food systems, food security, agricultural biotechnology, and bio-engineering.

Infrastructure, Transport & Logistics: Bridges, tunnels, ports, shipping, supply chains, and sustainable cities.

Health & Life Sciences: Biomedical sciences, telemedicine, public health, pharmaceuticals, and infectious disease control.

Society, Economy & CPEC Studies: Economics, trade, Chinese studies, culture, media, tourism, and CPEC-related social sciences.
