HEC Resumes University Physical Classes Today
The Higher Education Commission HEC has officially directed all public and private universities across Pakistan to resume physical classes effective today, April 1, 2026. This decision marks the end of a temporary shift to virtual learning that was implemented earlier in March.
Transition from Online to On-Campus
According to the official notification No.10-01/2026/Coord/HEC/188, the resumption of in-person academic activities applies to all Higher Education Institutions HEIs and Degree Awarding Institutions DAIs nationwide. The move comes as a relief to thousands of students and faculty members who had transitioned to 100% online mode following the HECs March 10 directive.
Austerity Measures and Compliance
The initial closure was part of the broader Austerity and Fuel Conservation measures introduced by the federal government. While the fuel-saving protocols remain a priority for the state, the HEC has determined that the academic calendar must return to its regular physical format to ensure educational quality.
- Mandatory Attendance: Students are expected to report to their respective campuses immediately.
- Administrative Oversight: Vice Chancellors and Rectors are instructed to ensure full compliance with the new schedule.
- Transport Services: Campus shuttle services and laboratory sessions are expected to resume regular operations.
Future Academic Outlook
The HEC Pakistan leadership, under Executive Director Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, emphasizes that while physical classes are back, institutions should remain mindful of energy efficiency. This Education Update confirms that all undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including research-based disciplines, will now follow the standard on-campus timetable.
