HEC Mandatory AI Curriculum in Pak Universities Launch Date
The academic landscape of Pakistan is undergoing a monumental shift as the Higher Education Commission officially sets the framework for modernizing degree requirements. Starting from the Fall 2026 semester, all public and private universities across the country will implement a HEC mandatory artificial intelligence course for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Approved during the 47th meeting of the commission chaired by Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar in Islamabad, this curriculum update ensures that AI education in Pakistani universities becomes a foundational core requirement for individuals across all academic disciplines, equipping future graduates with essential technological competencies for a rapidly evolving global economy.

Designed as a comprehensive three-credit-hour module, this nationwide policy initiative moves past traditional educational boundaries to integrate technology-driven learning programs into mainstream higher education. Beyond basic digital literacy, the commission is actively establishing complementary structural guidelines, including a framework for the responsible use of Generative AI in higher education institutions in Pakistan and refined data protection policies.
