The Higher Education Commission HEC Pakistan, through the Education Testing Council ETC, has officially announced the upcoming Law Graduate Assessment Test Law-GAT. This mandatory legal examination is a critical prerequisite for all law graduates seeking enrolment to the Bar as an Advocate in Pakistan. Aspiring legal professionals must successfully qualify for this assessment to initiate their professional practice.
 
Eligibility and Essential Qualifications
 
To be eligible to appear for the Law-GAT 2026, candidates must possess a HEC Bachelor’s Degree in Law LLB or an equivalent law degree recognized by the HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council PBC. Please note that individuals who have already exhausted seven attempts or have previously qualified for the Law-GAT are ineligible to apply. Furthermore, students currently enrolled in their law degree program are not permitted to register.
 
Examination Structure and Scoring Standards
 
The Law-GAT curriculum is designed to evaluate core legal competencies. The assessment consists of Multiple Choice Questions MCQs, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of a candidates knowledge. To successfully pass the examination and achieve Law-GAT certification, candidates are required to secure a minimum qualifying score of 50 out of 100. Candidates are permitted a maximum of three attempts to meet this requirement.

Prospective candidates must complete their online registration via the official ETC portal no later than Sunday, July 19, 2026. During the application process, applicants must ensure all personal details, including CNIC information and contact numbers, are accurate, as mismatches may lead to disqualification. Following the payment of the non-refundable test fee through the 1-Link/1-Bill invoice service, candidates must confirm their payment on the dashboard. Upon successful submission, Roll Number Slips will be available for download one week prior to the examination date.
 
Important Test Schedule and Compliance
 
The Law-GAT examination is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 09, 2026, in major cities across Pakistan. On the day of the test, candidates are required to present their printed Roll Number Slip along with their original CNIC or passport for entry. Strict adherence to exam regulations is mandatory; electronic devices, including mobile phones and calculators, are strictly prohibited within the test center. Furthermore, the unauthorized reproduction or sharing of test materials is a punishable offense under ETC testing policies.
