HEC Issues Work From Home Guidelines for University Staff
Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has released an important notification following the directions of the Prime Minister of Pakistan. According to this directive, all universities and Degree Awarding Institutions DAIs across the country have been instructed to immediately adopt several precautionary and administrative measures. These steps are aimed at ensuring the smooth continuation of academic activities while maintaining operational efficiency within higher education institutions. Key Academic and Administrative Measures for Universities
Under the new guidelines, all teaching activities must shift completely to the online mode, meaning that lectures, academic discussions, and learning sessions will be conducted virtually with immediate effect. In addition, universities are required to adopt a condensed work schedule by implementing a four-day workweek from Monday to Thursday. This adjustment is intended to manage institutional operations more efficiently during the current circumstances.
The announcement also encourages institutions to facilitate work-from-home arrangements for faculty members and administrative staff. Up to half of the employees may perform their duties remotely on an alternating basis to ensure both productivity and safety. Furthermore, meetings of statutory bodies, committees, and administrative forums should preferably be conducted through virtual platforms whenever possible.
Apart from operational changes, the HEC has emphasized the responsibility of universities in determining practical arrangements for implementing work-from-home policies and other administrative procedures. Institutions are expected to show unity and cooperation with national efforts by responsibly managing their academic and administrative affairs. The commission has also stressed that all directives and related austerity measures must be strictly followed and implemented without delay. Universities and DAIs are required to ensure that these instructions are communicated clearly and enforced in both letter and spirit across their respective campuses and departments.
