Gomal University Vice-Chancellor Placed on Forced Leave
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Govt has taken decisive action regarding the administration of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan, by placing Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zafar Iqbal on a 90-day forced leave. This directive, issued under Section 128 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act, 2012, was formalized by the provincial higher education department. The Govt’s decision follows the recommendations of an inquiry committee tasked with reviewing the university’s internal affairs. To ensure operational continuity, the administration has appointed the senior-most officer as the acting registrar until further notice.
Mandate of the Independent Inquiry Panel
In conjunction with the Gomal University DI Khan Vice-Chancellors leave, the province has constituted a three-member investigation committee headed by the Commissioner of Dera Ismail Khan. The panel, which includes the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peshawar and the Registrar of the University of Science and Technology, Bannu, has been granted a two-week window to submit an evidence-based report. Their investigation is comprehensive, covering serious allegations such as:
Misuse of administrative authority and procedural violations.
Security concerns, including an alleged incident involving campus staff.
Reports of drug abuse within university hostels.
Complaints regarding merit-based recruitment and financial irregularities.
