GCU Lahore Introduces Innovative Program for Free Learning

Government College University GCU Lahore has recently launched an ambitious initiative aimed at providing free education opportunities to individuals driven by a genuine thirst for knowledge. This program seeks to empower learners by offering them a chance to attend classes without the pressure of pursuing formal degrees or grades. Free Education for All: A Pilot Project

According to a press release from GCU Lahore Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, the program, titled Free Education for All, will commence as a pilot project in the Institute of History during the upcoming Fall semester of 2023. The university plans to gradually expand the program to encompass other departments in subsequent phases.

Focus on Acquiring Knowledge

The program provides individuals with the unique opportunity to attend classes with a primary focus on acquiring knowledge rather than solely pursuing degrees. Participants will have the freedom to choose courses from a diverse range of degree programs offered by the university.

Ungraded Assessments and Absence of Formal Degrees

In this initiative, assignments and exams will not be graded, and participants will not receive formal degrees upon completion. However, they will benefit from the expertise of highly qualified faculty members who will guide their learning journey.

Ensuring Accessibility and Inclusion

Prof. Zaidi emphasized the significance of making education accessible to all, regardless of age, race, religion, educational background, or financial circumstances. This program aims to break down barriers and create equal opportunities for individuals seeking knowledge.

Enrollment Process and Future Expansion

To enroll in the program, individuals will need to undergo a police verification process, obtain a university card worth Rs. 200, and gain approval from the Chairperson and instructor of their desired program or course. Initially, the program will be launched in three departments within the Institute of Global and Historical Studies, namely History, Art History, and Archive Studies. However, the university has plans to expand it to other departments starting from the Spring semester of 2024.
