Funding Delays Leave 38,000 Punjab Schools Struggling
Over 38,000 schools across Punjab are facing a critical shortage of funds, disrupting their routine academic operations, according to official reports. Despite the commencement of the new fiscal year three months ago, the School Education Department has not yet issued the non-salary budget, which is vital for meeting schools’ daily operational expenses. Thousands of Schools Affected by Delay in Non-Salary Budget Release
Officials explained that this budget is used to cover costs such as maintenance, utilities, and other essential services. Normally, schools receive these funds quarterly, but the first installment for the current fiscal year has still not been released.
In Lahore alone, schools typically receive around Rs160 million every quarter. However, the ongoing delay has made it difficult for institutions to cover their bills and sustain smooth functioning. Education authorities have cautioned that if the funds are not disbursed soon, educational activities and essential maintenance across the province may suffer even more.
