First Group of Palestinian Medical Students Arrives in Pakistan
The first group of 27 Palestinian medical students from Gaza has landed in Lahore to pursue their education in Pakistan, as reported by ARY News. The students traveled from Istanbul on an international flight and were brought to a local hotel under strict security measures. Departure Facilitated by Embassy and Al-Khidmat Foundation
Before reaching Lahore, officials from the Embassy of Pakistan in Cairo, along with representatives from the Al-Khidmat Foundation, facilitated the students departure from Cairo International Airport, ensuring a smooth journey.
Part of a Larger Initiative for Gaza Students
This group is part of a broader initiative to support 192 Palestinian medical students from the conflict-stricken Gaza Strip. These students will continue their medical and dental studies at various institutions across Pakistan, with full financial support provided by Pakistan, following directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Special Permission Granted by PMDC
Earlier, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council PMDC granted special approval for students from Gaza to complete their medical education in Pakistan. This decision was made in response to a request by Pakistan’s High Commissioner in London. PMDC officials mentioned that around 100 students from Gaza will be accommodated in medical and dental colleges in Pakistan, with a committee established to oversee their education.
Students Supported Amid Gaza Humanitarian Crisis
This initiative comes amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The UN agency for Palestinian refugees UNRWA estimates that approximately 250,000 people have been displaced by Israeli evacuation orders. Gaza’s health ministry reports that the conflict has resulted in over 42,000 deaths, predominantly civilians.
