Education Boards Increases Passing Marks for All Exams
The Inter Boards Coordination Commission IBCC has rolled out new policies that bring substantial changes to the grading system for Pakistani education boards. These updates aim to enhance academic rigor and streamline student evaluation across the nation.
In a pivotal meeting held in Karachi, representatives from education boards nationwide unanimously decided to increase the minimum passing marks in each subject from 33% to 40%, a step towards aligning the national education system with international standards.
Additionally, the grace marks policy has been revised. Previously, students scoring 30 marks could pass with three grace marks. Under the updated system, a student must secure at least 35 marks in exam to qualify for up to five grace marks.
To uphold fairness, the IBCC has introduced stricter conditions for grace marks. Students failing in more than two subjects will no longer be eligible for this provision, ensuring that grace marks are used judiciously.
The revised criteria are set to take effect from 2025, giving schools and students ample time to prepare for these new requirements.
These changes reflect the IBCC’s commitment to improving the quality of education in Pakistan while addressing long-standing concerns about assessment fairness.
