British-Pakistani Student Sues LSE Over Alleged Grading Error
Rehaab Sheikh, a British-Pakistani student, has initiated legal proceedings against the London School of Economics LSE, claiming that an error in the marking of her dissertation prevented her from pursuing an MPhil at Cambridge University. Background of the Case
Sheikh explained that the lawsuit arose after she was unable to gain admission to the Cambridge MPhil program due to her academic results. Her dissertation, submitted in 2023 during a university boycott, was initially assessed by only one examiner, who awarded her 57 marks.
Review and Impact
Following a review process, Sheikh’s dissertation marks were later revised to 72. Unfortunately, by that time, the opportunity to apply for or secure a place in the Cambridge program had already passed.

According to Sheikh, the lawsuit aims to have LSE formally acknowledge the grading error and to seek compensation for the academic and career opportunities lost as a result.
