British Council Launches Women in STEM Scholarships for UK Study

The British Council has announced the continuation of its Women in STEM scholarship program, offering fully funded opportunities for women to pursue one-year master’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics STEM at leading universities and research institutions in the United Kingdom. Now in its sixth year, this initiative is part of the British Council’s Going Global Partnerships, aimed at increasing female participation in STEM fields, strengthening women’s leadership in science and innovation, and promoting diversity across the sector. Since its inception, the program has collaborated with 43 top UK universities and awarded nearly 500 scholarships. Fully Funded Opportunities for Women to Pursue STEM Master’s Programs

Each scholarship for the 2026-27 academic year is valued at a minimum of £40,000, covering tuition fees, living expenses, travel and visa costs, health coverage, and English language support. These scholarships provide recipients access to world-class science and research institutions in the UK, along with opportunities to connect with STEM experts and join the British Council’s global alumni network.

A total of 90 scholarships are available globally, with eligible applicants from 30 countries. Specifically, 25 scholarships are reserved for candidates from South Asia in collaboration with five UK universities.

James Hampson, the British Council’s Country Director in Pakistan, highlighted the program’s significance: “The Women in STEM Scholarship demonstrates our commitment to supporting talented women from Pakistan in accessing world-class education in the UK and preparing them to become future leaders.” Dr. Jen Bardsley, Global Head of Enabling Research & Science at the British Council, added: “Running the Women in STEM scholarship again for 2026-27 helps break down barriers for women pursuing STEM careers and promotes a more inclusive and diverse scientific community, which benefits innovation and outcomes worldwide.”

Interested applicants can find detailed information about eligibility, participating universities, and the application process on the British Council’s official global website. Applications for the 2026-27 Women in STEM scholarships are open until late April 2026.
