British Council Cancels Afternoon Exams in Lahore
The British Council Pakistan has officially cancelled all scheduled afternoon examinations in Lahore on Thursday, 8 May 2025, in response to the citys deteriorating security situation.
Exams Affected
In a statement released via X formerly Twitter, the British Council confirmed that the PM session exams—including GCE, IGCSE, IELTS, and University of London assessments—across all Lahore venues have been cancelled. The decision was taken in consultation with the respective examination boards.
Focus on Candidate Safety
“The decision has been made to prioritise the safety & security of candidates,” the Council stated in its announcement.
Guidance for Affected Candidates
Candidates have been advised to monitor official British Council communication channels for the latest updates. Those enrolled through schools should reach out to their institutions for further information. Private candidates are directed to contact the British Councils Customer Services centre for support.
Security Tensions in Lahore
The cancellation follows rising tensions and heightened security alerts in Lahore, reportedly linked to recent cross-border drone activity and military movements. Authorities have not yet provided details on when the postponed exams will be rescheduled.
