BBISE Revised Practical Exams System for Classes IX & X 2026

BBISE Revised Practical Exams System for Classes IX & X 2026

The Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education BBISE, Quetta, has officially issued a notification introducing a revised practical Exams modality for Classes IX and X, effective from the Academic Session 2026 onwards. The updated policy applies to students enrolling in Class IX from the 2026 session and has been implemented under Rule 128 of the BBISE Rules, 2026. This initiative is designed to modernize the practical assessment process by emphasizing continuous evaluation, scientific inquiry, and hands-on learning alongside theoretical knowledge.
Revised Practical Assessment Structure and Marks Distribution
According to the latest notification, the previous BISE Quetta Matric annual practical Exams format has been replaced with a new assessment model carrying a total of 15 marks. The largest component is the Practical-Based Assessment PBA, which will be conducted alongside the theory Exams of each respective science subject and will contribute 6 marks. Students will also receive 2 marks for their Favourite Practical, encouraging them to demonstrate their strongest laboratory skills. In addition, 7 marks have been allocated for a Scientific Phenomenon-Based Project, which students will complete at their schools under the supervision of their science teachers. This revised marking scheme aims to assess practical knowledge through classroom participation, project work, and applied scientific understanding.

Focus on Practical Skills and Scientific Learning
The newly introduced Exams framework reflects Quetta Board commitment to promoting activity-based education, scientific reasoning, and practical learning outcomes. By incorporating project-based assessment and practical demonstrations into the evaluation process, the board intends to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding rather than relying solely on traditional practical Exams. The revised policy also encourages teachers to play an active role in mentoring students throughout their scientific projects, fostering creativity, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Important Instructions for Students and Educational Institutions
The board has advised all concerned institutions, teachers, and students to review Rule 128 Conduct of Practical Exams under Chapter 8 of the BBISE Rules, 2026 for detailed implementation guidelines. Educational institutions are expected to ensure proper execution of the revised practical assessment model in accordance with the official regulations issued by the board.

Applicability of the New Practical Exams Modality
BBISE has clarified that the revised practical Exams system will only apply to students enrolled in Class IX from the Academic Session 2026 onward. Students who are currently registered in Class X, regardless of whether they have previously passed or failed science subjects in Class IX, will continue to follow the existing practical Exams system. This clarification ensures a smooth transition to the updated assessment framework without affecting students already studying under the previous Exams policy.

The introduction of the BBISE Revised Practical Exams Modality 2026, Class IX and X Practical Assessment Policy, Practical-Based Assessment PBA, and Scientific Phenomenon-Based Projects marks a significant step toward improving science education in Balochistan. The updated Exams model is expected to enhance students practical competencies, encourage innovative learning, and align the assessment process with modern educational standards.
