Balochistan Student Well-being with Rs. 1.58 Billion Nutritional Initiative

Balochistan Student Well-being with Rs. 1.58 Billion Nutritional Initiative

The government of Balochistan has taken a significant step toward improving child health and educational outcomes by launching a dedicated school meal program for primary students in Quetta. This initiative, valued at approximately Rs. 1.58 billion, is being implemented on a pilot basis as part of a comprehensive provincial strategy to address persistent nutrition challenges within the region. With an initial allocation of Rs. 315.9 million for the current year, the project underscores the governments commitment to supporting young learners through targeted school-based interventions.

Strengthening Public Health and Educational Infrastructure

Beyond the immediate provision of meals, this scheme is part of a broader development agenda aimed at enhancing maternal and child health across the province. The government is concurrently advancing several critical projects, including a Rs. 2 billion comprehensive health program and a separate Rs. 2 billion investment focused on WASH facilities in schools. These efforts—encompassing clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and deworming—are designed to create a healthier environment for students. Furthermore, a new Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health facility has been established at the Eastern Bypass in Quetta, supported by a Rs. 400 million allocation.

A Strategic Focus on Sustainable Development

By prioritizing nutrition and public health in underserved areas, Balochistan aims to strengthen its human capital and ensure that children have the foundation necessary to succeed academically. These interconnected initiatives reflect a strategic approach to development, where school in Baluchistan support programs is integrated with improved hygiene and healthcare access. As these pilot projects move forward, they serve as a cornerstone for the provincial governments long-term vision to elevate public health outcomes and support the well-being of the next generation.
