Balochistan Confirms Extended Winter Vacations for Schools 2025 2026

As winter approaches across Pakistan, provinces are releasing their annual vacation schedules for schools. After Punjab’s recent update, Balochistan has now officially announced its winter break plan for government schools situated in the province’s colder districts. This year’s schedule once again includes an extended holiday period to protect students and teachers from the harsh winter conditions common in northern and high-altitude regions. The students can get latest information of Balochistan Confirms Extended Winter Vacations for Schools in 2025.

Complete Winter Break Schedule, Exam Updates, and Provincial Announcements

According to a notification issued on November 17, 2025, the provincial Education Department confirmed that schools in the coldest areas will observe a two-and-a-half-month winter vacation starting December 16, 2025. This yearly closure helps safeguard children, as temperatures in these regions often fall well below freezing.

Balochistan Schools to Close from December 16, 2025

The Education Department stated that academic institutions located in cold zones will remain closed from December 16, 2025, to the end of February 2026. Classes are expected to resume in early March, subject to weather conditions and final departmental approval.

These winter-affected regions include:

  • Chaman
  • Kalat
  • Ziarat
  • Killa Abdullah
  • Select areas of Quetta
  • Various mountainous districts

Balochistan has long followed different vacation schedules for warm and cold regions due to drastic climate variation across the province, and the 2025–26 timetable continues this practice.

Examinations Already In Progress in Chaman

While schools prepare for the long winter recess, annual exams have already commenced in Chaman. As shared by the Education Department:

  • Exams for Classes 1–7 began on November 16, 2025, and will continue until November 24, 2025.
  • Class 8 exams, administered by the BBISE, will start on November 24, 2025.
  • Online lectures are also being arranged where needed.

School heads have been instructed to ensure smooth conduct of exams and complete assessments and report cards before vacations begin.

Punjab Also Issues Winter Vacation Dates

In a separate announcement, the Punjab School Education Department SED has finalized its holiday schedule for the 2025–26 winter season. All public and private schools in Punjab will observe vacations from:

  • December 23, 2025, to January 11, 2026
  • Schools will reopen on January 12, 2026

Punjab typically experiences a shorter winter break due to comparatively milder weather, but the government has still emphasized finishing all academic activities and examinations before the holidays.

Why Balochistan’s Long Winter Break Is Necessary

Winter in Balochistan is far more severe than in most other provinces. Many districts sit at high altitudes, where temperatures regularly to –10°C or lower. Heavy frost, snowfall, and freezing winds make daily school attendance unsafe.

The extended winter break helps ensure:

  • Safety of students and teachers, as extreme cold can cause health issues, especially for younger children.
  • Accessibility, since snowfall often blocks roads and makes travel dangerous.
  • Comfort in classrooms, as many schools lack adequate heating systems.

For these reasons, the province implements a lengthy break each year to prioritize student welfare.

Education Departments Stress Completion of Academic Tasks

Both the Balochistan and Punjab Education Departments have issued directives to school administrations to:

  • Finalize all exams and assessments
  • Complete report cards and academic records
  • Provide students with winter assignments or activity workbooks
  • Clearly communicate reopening dates
  • Keep parents informed in case of any changes

These steps help reduce academic gaps and ensure a smooth return to classes after the holidays.

Parents and Students Respond to the Announcement

Families in Balochistan welcomed the confirmation of the extended break, noting that the lengthy vacation allows them to move temporarily to warmer regions. Students in the province expressed excitement as the winter holidays offer time for travel, family gatherings, and seasonal festivals in Quetta.

In Punjab, the shorter break is generally seen as balanced, especially with major board exams scheduled for early 2026.

With both provinces now releasing their winter vacation schedules, schools across Pakistan are preparing for seasonal closures. Balochistan’s long break reflects its challenging weather conditions, while Punjab continues with its standard holiday duration. As temperatures , education authorities urge timely completion of academic tasks and advise parents and students to keep track of announcements for any changes due to weather conditions.
