The announcement was made during a meeting in Islamabad on Friday, attended by Pakistan’s Education Minister, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Egypt’s Grand Mufti, Nazir Mohamed Ayad. Grand Mufti Ayad emphasized the importance of this partnership in advancing educational standards in both countries. He highlighted the need for learning Arabic to gain an authentic understanding of Islam’s teachings and reiterated University’s dedication to promoting women’s education, with women comprising over 40% of its student population.

Education Minister Siddiqui reflected on the deep historical and cultural ties shared by Egypt and Pakistan, both homes to some of the world’s most ancient civilizations. He also discussed the upcoming International Girls Conference, which is set to take place on January 11-12 in Pakistan. This event celebrates the contributions of Islamic nations to advancing education for girls and provides a platform for furthering this cause.

Promoting Women’s Education in Islam

During the meeting, Minister Siddiqui addressed common misconceptions about women’s education in Islam, emphasizing that the religion strongly advocates for equal educational opportunities for both men and women. He described women’s education as crucial for building a progressive and prosperous society and reaffirmed the Pakistani government’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to education for women across the country.

Support for Al-Azhar Campus in Pakistan

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani pledged the Ministry of Education’s full support for establishing the Al-Azhar campus in Pakistan. He highlighted the involvement of over 2,000 female students from universities and colleges nationwide in the International Girls Conference. The establishment of Al-Azhar’s campus is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing education in Pakistan while strengthening ties with Egypt.
