Army High Altitude School was set up at Rattu in December 1987 with the mission to provide higher standard of education to the local students so that they can complete their quality education and they can contribute in the national development. This educational institute is located at the high altitude and the weather in this city remains cool during hot weather condition but there is snow fall during winter season so this school is closed for winter vacation for over two months. The school manages the tactical exercises at the altitude of 12000 feet to 16000 feet and the students complete their basic training. The school undertakes the trekking and mountaineering expeditions on the famous peaks to ensure the maximum stress on the practical training to enable the trainers to overcome the difficulties faced on the high altitude. These exercises and expeditions will develop the confidence in the trainers to operate in small groups and survive in high altitude snow bound and glaciated areas. This school is run by Pakistan and in the faculty staff of this school, the officers, junior commissioned officers and non-commissioned officers is included. The training staff of this educational institute is qualified in mountain warfare and high altitude operations. In this school, the recreational facilities of indoor and outdoor activities including weight training, badminton, squash, badminton, tennis, hockey, cricket, basketball, volleyball and other games. This campus is surrounded by River Kalapani and Mir Malik River. The students enjoy the trekking and ski training in this mountainous area.
