SED Introduce Facial Recognition Attendance System
The Sindh Education Department has announced the introduction of a facial recognition attendance system as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize administrative operations and improve transparency across government educational institutions. The new digital attendance mechanism is expected to strengthen workforce monitoring by ensuring accurate attendance records for both teaching and non-teaching staff while reducing the possibility of manual errors or unauthorized attendance practices.
Technology to Improve Accountability and Workplace Discipline
The decision reflects the provincial governments commitment to adopting digital governance in education. Officials believe the facial recognition system will help enhance accountability by identifying employees who remain absent from duty without authorization. The initiative is also intended to improve institutional efficiency and ensure that public education resources are utilized effectively. Education authorities expect the technology-driven system to support better workforce management and strengthen service delivery in schools in Sindh.
Verification of Academic Credentials Underway
Alongside the implementation of the new attendance system, authorities have also intensified efforts to verify the academic qualifications of employees recruited by the Sindh Education Department between 1989 and 2020. Reports indicate that the verification process is being carried out with the support of the National Accountability Bureau NAB to identify any irregularities involving fake academic degrees. The move is part of broader administrative reforms aimed at promoting merit, integrity, and professionalism within the education sector.

Officials have also noted that nearly 15,000 teaching and non-teaching employees have applied for early retirement, creating additional administrative and financial challenges for the department.
