Punjab Education Minister to Lead Weekly Classroom Sessions

In a pioneering move to enhance the connection between policymakers and the classroom, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to personally teach one class at a Govt school every week. This innovative directive serves as a cornerstone of the broader Punjab School Reforms Programme PSRP. By stepping into the role of a teacher, the Minister aims to gain first-hand insights into the day-to-day challenges faced by students and educators, ensuring that future educational policies are grounded in the realities of the public school system. This initiative underscores the Govts commitment to prioritizing the dignity of the teaching profession and improving the quality of instruction across the province.

Beyond classroom engagement, the provincial Govt is aggressively pursuing the digital transformation of schools in Punjab to ensure greater transparency and administrative efficiency. Key measures include the mandatory digital disbursement of salaries for approximately 138,000 Punjab Education Foundation PEF teachers, aimed at eliminating payroll delays and enhancing fiscal accountability. Furthermore, the Govt has launched efforts to digitally map and regulate private tuition centers, ensuring uniform standards across the sector.

These reforms are complemented by impressive milestones, including the achievement of record-breaking student enrollment—reaching 4.3 million in Govt schools within just over two years. By focusing on innovative revenue generation and robust governance, the province is creating a sustainable framework for long-term growth.
