Eligibility Criteria and Academic Requirements

Applicants must carefully verify their qualifications to meet the strict standards required for these highly competitive merchant navy admissions:

Nationality and Age: Candidates must be unmarried male citizens of Pakistan. The age limit is not more than 20 years as of December 31, 2026, though candidates from FATA, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, and Balochistan enjoy a one-year age relaxation, making the limit 21 years.
Academic Qualifications: Applicants must have passed F.Sc Pre-Engineering or A-Level with a subject combination of Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, securing at least 55% marks. O/A-level candidates must submit official equivalency certificates. Students appearing in F.Sc or A-Level Part-II with at least 60% marks in Part-I can also apply by providing a Hope Certificate from their respective institution head, though failure to meet the 55% final threshold results in disqualification.

Registration and Application Procedure

The application process is structured to ensure transparency and accessibility for all prospective candidates:

Prospectus Download: The prospectus and application form can be downloaded directly from the official Pakistan Marine Academy website at www.pakistanmarineacademy.edu.pk or obtained from the PMA Admission Office.
Fee Submission: Completed application forms must be submitted via courier services along with a pay order or bank draft of Rs. 4,000/- in favor of Pakistan Marine Academy, Karachi, through the National Bank of Pakistan NBP, PMA Branch Code-0239.

Selection Procedure and Physical Standards

The comprehensive selection procedure evaluates candidates through four rigorous stages: an entrance test conducted across major cities Abbottabad, Gwadar, Karachi, Lahore, Multan, Muzaffarabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, and Sukkur, a medical fitness examination at designated hospitals, a Physical Efficiency Test PET, and a final interview.

The PET standards require candidates to complete a 1.6-kilometer run in 8 minutes, 15 push-ups in 2 minutes, 15 sit-ups in 2 minutes, and 2 chin-ups in 2 minutes. Furthermore, candidates must clear the Mercantile Marine Department MMD eye vision and color perception tests to confirm their provisional admission.

Education, Training, and Seat Allocation

Selected cadets undergo 02 years of residential training at PMA, leading to the award of an Associate Degree in Nautical Science and Marine Engineering by the NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, alongside International Maritime Organization IMO recognized pre-sea mandatory courses. Available seats are equally divided, with 75 seats allocated for Nautical Deck and 75 seats for Engineering.
