AIOU PhD Admissions Autumn 2026

Allama Iqbal Open University AIOU is pleased to announce the opening of AIOU PhD admissions for the Autumn 2026 semester. As a premier institution committed to high-level research and scholarly development, AIOU is offering a range of AIOU fully funded merit-based scholarships for prospective doctoral candidates. This initiative is designed to support exceptional students as they pursue advanced studies and contribute to their respective fields of expertise.

Diverse Doctoral Research Opportunities

AIOU provides a rigorous research environment across a wide spectrum of disciplines, empowering scholars to make significant intellectual contributions. The available PhD programs for the Autumn 2026 cycle include:

Islamic Studies General, Hadith & Hadith Sciences, and Seerat Studies

Distance & Non-formal Education and Science Education

Mass Communication and Agricultural Extension

Pakistani Languages & Literature with specializations in Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi, Saraiki, Balochi, & Brahui

STEM disciplines: Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, Food & Nutrition, Mathematics, and Physics

Eligibility and Scholarship Excellence

To be eligible for these AIOU merit-based scholarships, applicants must hold a minimum CGPA of 3.5/4.0 or equivalent in their MS/MPhil degree. Candidates must be 35 years of age or younger by the application deadline. Furthermore, applicants are required to submit a well-structured research proposal that aligns with the specific research areas of their chosen faculty. While prior research experience or publications are advantageous, they are not mandatory, welcoming fresh candidates with a strong passion for development and learning.

The fully funded scholarship package covers the total tuition cost and provides a monthly stipend of Rs. 80,000 to assist with living expenses. Scholars will have full access to university research facilities, libraries, and laboratories for the four-year duration of the program, provided they maintain satisfactory annual progress reports from their supervisors. Please note that this is a residential program requiring scholars to be physically present at the AIOU Main Campus.

How to Apply and Admission Schedule

Prospective students should review the full program details in the prospectus available on the official AIOU website. Online applications must be submitted via the universitys designated portal by the last date to apply: August 17, 2026. Fees can be conveniently deposited through various banking channels ABL, MCB, FMBL, NBP or digital payment platforms like Upaisa, Easypaisa, JazzCash, and 1-Link.

Entrance tests are scheduled between August 21, 2026, and August 28, 2026, depending on the faculty. Tests will be conducted at AIOU regional centers in Islamabad, Multan, Quetta, Karachi, and Gilgit.
